We hired Jason Cornell and Apex Landscape Solutions in 2024 to provide a new landscape plan for a house that we had recently returned to after it had been a rental for 25 years.  The yard was in very bad shape. We were so impressed with the resulting plan----so well-thought-out and professionally presented, down to the smallest details. Jason is a true horticultural pro. In short, our yard was completely transformed.  The construction/installation process was not disruptive and was completed swiftly, with good communication throughout. Edited: Jason's response to my review reinforces the concerns I expressed about professionalism & customer service.
First, he criticized me for leaving voicemails outside business hours when he's the one who called me at 7:33AM on May 12th! The majority of the voicemails I left were actually between 6AM-6PM. Businesses provide voicemail so customers can leave messages when it is convenient for them. Like many working professionals, I make personal calls before work, after work, or during a break. Leaving a voicemail outside of business hours is not unreasonable & does not require anyone to answer the phone at that time.
Jason implied I expected him to meet outside of normal business hours. That is inaccurate. I explained I could not take time off work to meet before his 4PM cutoff. Instead, I suggested that he visit the property at his convenience (even if only for a drive-by) & we could discuss his observations by phone. I was trying to accommodate his schedule, not asking him to accommodate mine.
I adjusted my schedule & we agreed upon an appointment. Less than 24 hours later, Jason canceled it!
Jason also claimed that I told him I had problems with previous landscapers. I never hired a landscaper before. I recently purchased this home, & the yard had been somewhat neglected by the previous owner. This was my attempt to hire a landscaping company.
I also disagree with his characterization of my budget as unrealistic. In his June 10 email, Jason estimated the project between 25-40K. I accepted the estimate & scheduled a consultation which Jason promptly cancelled!
Jason sent me the following email on June 16:
"I fully admit I did not handle the situation well at all, and frankly, I am embarrassed. Given our current schedule and my availability (sanity), I had a knee jerk reaction this morning and cancelled the appointment."
I appreciate he acknowledged his handling of the situation. However, that private admission is difficult to reconcile with his public response, which attempts to shift responsibility onto me & dispute the facts.
Finally, Jason stated he was offering me a "free consultation," in his apologetic email, but the consultation had already been free from the beginning. I am not sure what additional value that offer was intended to provide.
Prospective customers deserve to know both the positive and negative experiences when deciding whom to hire.
REVIEW: Based on many positive reviews I was genuinely looking forward to working with Jason for my landscaping project. Unfortunately, my experience was very different from what I expected.
I initially began contacting the company in April and left multiple voicemails throughout April and May before Jason finally returned my call on May 12 at 7:33AM! During that conversation, he asked me to email photos of the project and said he would get back to me by the end of the week. I sent the photos on May 13 but received no follow-up.
After several weeks without communication, I reached out again by voicemail & email on June 6 & June 8. It took multiple attempts (voicemails/emails) before Jason responded, requesting that I schedule a phone appointment, which was set for June 10. In his email, he provided a preliminary estimate of 25-40K for the project, recommended an additional 2K design fee & advised that his schedule was booked through July or August.
During our phone conversation, he requested an onsite appt. However, I found part of the conversation very uncomfortable, as he began asking personal questions unrelated to the project, including questions about my occupation. Those inquiries were not relevant to the landscaping services I was seeking.  What does my occupation have to do with my landscaping needs?
Within 24 hrs Jason emailed me stating he is now booked through Sept. & would need to cancel our scheduled consultation!
Jason's communication was inconsistent, follow-through was lacking, & the repeated delays made the process frustrating. Based on my experience, this was one of the most unprofessional customer service interactions I have encountered.

Jason came recommended to me, and Apex created an amazing back yard, patio, and deck. I moved into a house with only dirt, rocks and weeds. When I met with Jason he listened to how I wished to live in my space, discussed physical needs and limitations, and considered how my area could be enhanced by my natural surroundings and how to attract and coexist with wildlife. He had wonderful suggestions for native plants and trees that would minimize future labor for me as well as create a space that could thrive in this area.
I cannot speak highly enough about the crew that performed the work. They are efficient, personable, and skilled. Josh, the project manager kept me apprised as work progressed. He went above and beyond to consult with me as decisions had to be made and was more than accommodating when I needed to change a few plans.

Working with Apex Landscaping was one of those rare experiences where the end result is even better than you hoped for.

Jason didn’t just design a yard. He took the time to understand how we live and how we use our space, then created a design we never would have considered that turned out to be exactly right for us.

His crew was fantastic. Meticulous, communicative, and clearly committed to doing the job right.

What a great experience I had with Apex Landscaping.  They took my bare, sloped, corner lot and created a beautiful, functional yard!
Working with Jason on the design was a delight. He was thoughtful and thorough: patient with all my questions and made the whole design process easy. Apex designed and completed a landscape project for us over the Summer of 2025.  From start finish everything was professional with outstanding results.  The project included removing existing landscape materials, adding irrigation, lighting, a water feature as well as designing and installing flagstone walk ways and patio and the recommended plants and shrubs.  They also installed an under deck ceiling.  We found the difference with Apex  compared to other  landscape companies was their education, knowledge and attention to detail.  We have used other landscape companies and those attributes were no where near what Apex delivered.   We look forward to the next project with Apex.
